TOTAL HARVESTED AREA OF MUSHROOMS IN GERMANY DROPS BY 6.72% IN 2022.

In 2022, Germany’s production of edible mushrooms decreased by -6.72% compared to the previous year, with a total of 78,164 tonnes harvested. ‘Button’ mushrooms accounted for 97.3% of the total production, with 76,085 tonnes harvested, a decrease of -6.13% from 2021. Despite the decrease, the 2022 harvest remains the third-largest in recent years.

According to Destatis, Germany’s Federal Statistical Office, the country’s production of edible mushrooms in 2022 was lower than in 2021, with 78,164 tonnes harvested, representing a decrease of -6.72%. However, the 2022 harvest still ranks as the third most significant production in recent years.

 The majority of the mushrooms produced were ‘button’ mushrooms, accounting for 97.3% of the total at 76,085 tonnes, a decrease of -6.13% compared to the previous year.

The total area harvested for mushrooms in 2022 was 371.1 hectares, a decrease of -6.72% from 2021, while the area harvested for ‘button’ mushrooms alone was 360.7 hectares, a decrease of -1.29% from 2021, but an increase of +5.78% from 2020.
