SPANISH FARMERS STRUGGLE WITH EXTREME WEATHER AND DROUGHT, RESULTING IN HIGHER PRODUCE PRICES.

In Spain, the cost of fresh vegetables and pulses increased by 5.7% from the previous month and by 27.8% when compared to the same period last year. Prices for fresh fruit showed a minor decline of -0.1% in comparison to February but increased by 5.6% on an annual basis.

Spanish crops have been hit hard by extreme weather conditions in the past few months, including frost, hail, and heavy rain. Currently, the entire country is facing severe drought, and farmers in Catalonia have warned that there may not be any summer crops due to the lack of water. This shortage of water has caused major concern for the agricultural industry in Spain, which is a significant contributor to the country’s economy.

If the drought continues, it could have a significant impact on the availability and price of fresh produce in Spain and potentially in other countries that rely on Spanish imports.
