According to the United Nations Statistics Division, Spain has secured its position as the world’s second-largest exporter of vegetables.
In recent years, Spain has outpaced both Mexico and the Netherlands in terms of vegetable export value, placing just behind China. In 2022, China’s vegetable exports were valued at 9,712.97 million euros, while Spain’s exports reached an impressive 8,541.47 million euros. This signifies remarkable growth for Spain, considering that a decade ago, China’s vegetable exports exceeded Spain’s by 20.84%, with 5,926.12 million euros compared to Spain’s 4,903.99 million euros.
In 2021, Spain successfully surpassed Mexico and the Netherlands in vegetable exports, while China continued to maintain its position as the leading exporter. China’s vegetable exports in that year amounted to 8,518.29 million euros, Spain followed closely with 7,459.41 million euros, Mexico with 7,267.44 million euros, and the Netherlands with 7,212.47 million euros.
As of 2022, the Netherlands’ vegetable exports reached a total value of 8,051.25 million euros. Although UN statistics do not yet provide definitive figures for Mexico, it is anticipated that the Netherlands will surpass Mexico in terms of vegetable export value.
