According to recent reports, the Peruvian Table Grape Producers Association, also known as Provid, has announced that grape production for the 2022-23 season is to increase by 13% compared to the previous season. The total projected amount is to reach 73 million 8.2kg boxes. This growth in grape production can be attribute to maturing vines in Peru, as well as a 2% increase in acreage from 20,775ha to 21,099ha.
The increase in grape production has also led to a steady rise in export value over the years. In 2012-13, the total export value of Peruvian grapes was $380 billion. This increased to $1.17 billion in 2020-21, and further to $1.37 billion in 2021-22. The top ten grape varieties produced in Peru are Red Globe, Sweet Globe, Autumn Crisp, Crimson Seedless, Allison, Sugraone, Sweet Celebration, Timpson, Jacks Salute, and Ivory. White seedless grapes represent 45% of the total, while red seedless grapes make up 29%, Red Globe grapes 21%, and black seedless grapes 5%.
The increase in grape production and exports is expected to have a positive impact on Peru’s economy, as it creates jobs and brings in revenue. The Peruvian government has been actively promoting the country’s grape industry, and it is believed that the rise in production and exports will continue in the coming years.

While the news of increased grape production and exports is certainly positive, it is important to note that the industry still faces challenges. These include weather conditions, pests and diseases, and global market competition. Nevertheless, the Peruvian grape industry is optimistic about the future and is working to address these challenges through innovation and collaboration.
