Peru’s avocado industry has experienced a remarkable surge in exports during the initial four months of 2023. A staggering total of 148,796,816 kilograms of avocados were shipped, signifying a substantial growth of +31.86% compared to the corresponding period in 2022 when 112,842,982 kilograms were exported.

Notably, the month-by-month breakdown reveals an upward trajectory in exports. In January, Peru exported 4,579,740 kilograms of avocados, surpassing the 4,506,132 kilograms from January 2022. February witnessed a significant leap with 16,363,783 kilograms shipped, compared to 10,468,678 kilograms the previous year. March further contributed to the surge, recording 47,405,643 kilograms, outperforming the 32,052,407 kilograms exported in March 2022. The momentum continued in April, which saw a remarkable volume of 80,447,650 kilograms exported, exceeding the 65,815,765 kilograms from April 2022.

The global demand for Peruvian avocados has been diverse, with the Netherlands, Spain, China, Chile, the United Kingdom, the United States, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan emerging as primary destinations during the first four months of this year. This sustained growth in avocado exports highlights Peru’s thriving agricultural sector and its ability to cater to the international market’s appetite for this popular fruit.
