Peruvian fresh pomegranate exports fell 10.6% in the first four months of this year compared to the same time in 2022. This contraction was emphasized by a well-known consulting firm, who noted that the fruit’s marketing had started out slowly but had recently stabilized.
A certain region’s early pomegranate cultivars initially garnered high prices, according to industry specialists. However, due to greater supply from another region, the aggregate volumes evened out.
Shipments in January totaled 859,245 kilos, while those in February totaled 5,151,675 kilos. Exports totaled 15,392,166 kilos in March and 14,425,560 kilos in April.
According to the most recent data, 4,130,203 kilograms of fresh pomegranates were exported by the 15th of May 2023. This amount is less than the sum from May of the prior year, which was 7,270,445 kilograms. Volumes for the rest of the month are predicted to be comparable.
One of the major problems facing the Peruvian pomegranate sector is the protracted conflict between two significant export destinations, which affects these countries. The demand for pomegranates has increased and driven up prices in other regions, such as China and the United States, therefore this is a positive development. Pomegranates from Peru are primarily exported to countries including the Netherlands, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
