DEMAND FOR GERMAN CUCUMBERS IS STILL VERY HIGH.

Early cucumbers from a horticultural center in Papenburg are available in small quantities and at high prices in northern Germany, with larger sizes to follow in a few weeks. Despite this, the cucumbers are selling fast among food retail and catering customers who prefer regional produce. The first asparagus from heated cultivation is also arriving from Nienburg.

The first cucumbers from a horticultural center in Papenburg have become available for purchase in northern Germany since last week, but only in small quantities and at high prices. The larger sizes will not be available for a few weeks, according to managing director of a fruit wholesaler in Lilienthal.

Despite the high prices, the early cucumbers are selling fast, especially among food retail and catering customers, who prefer regional produce. In the meantime, the first asparagus from heated cultivation is arriving from Nienburg.

The heated area for cultivation has been reduced this year due to minimum wages, energy prices, and sales problems in previous years, but early regional asparagus is still well received by buyers.
