Fresh fruit and vegetables imports from Spain increased significantly in 2024, according to data recently issued by the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency and processed by Fepex. The total volume and dollar value of imports increased by 7% and 15%, respectively, to 3.8 million tons and €3.76 billion.

Vegetable imports were the main driver of this growth, with a 14% increase in volume and a 32% increase in value, reaching just over €1.17 billion. This was largely due to the 20% jump in potato imports, which reached 1 million tons, valued at €364 million, a 55% increase from the previous year. Additionally, tomato imports grew by 5% in volume and 32% in value, reaching 188,000 tons and €206 million, respectively.

In contrast, fruit imports only saw a 1% increase in volume, reaching 2 million tons, but a 9% increase in value, totaling €2.59 billion.

Bananas were the most imported fruit, with 403,702 tons, up 9%, and valued at €259 million, up 29%.

However, avocado volumes dropped by 3% to 208,575 tons, valued at €404 million, down 2%. Apple imports saw a 6% increase in volume, reaching 195,524 tons, but a 4% decrease in value, totaling €150 million.
